Tag Archives: Neo-Confederate Kleptocracy

So, once again: “Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it.1

HBO’s motives aside, the plea to wait supposes that a problem of conception can be fixed in execution. We do not need to wait to observe that this supposition is, at best, dicey. For over a century, Hollywood has churned out well-executed, slickly produced epics which advanced the Lost Cause myth of the Civil War. These are true “alternative histories,” built on “alternative facts,” assembled to depict the Confederacy as a wonderland of virtuous damsels and gallant knights, instead of the sprawling kleptocratic police state it actually was. From last century’s The Birth of a Nation to this century’s Gods and Generals, Hollywood has likely done more than any other American institution to obstruct a truthful apprehension of the Civil War, and thus modern America’s very origins. So one need not wait to observe that any foray by HBO into the Civil War must be met with a spirit of pointed inquiry and a withholding of all benefit of the doubt.”

“After all, this show’s premise proposes to create a “fictionalized” plot about the continuation of slavery, as if thousands of American farmers and corporations didn’t continue to practice slavery well into the 1940s. The show acts as if the latter half of the twentieth century didn’t see America’s prison population swell with millions of Black bodies. It pretends that today’s prisons and venerable corporations don’t exploit the 13th amendment to profit from forced prison labor. HBO’s Confederate imagines that there aren’t more people under state control today than there were in chains at the peak of American slavery.”

Confederate, the sci-fi, alt-history drama of what the United States would look like if the North had lost the Civil War, had been announced by HBO in late July. The brainchild of Game of Thrones writers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, the series is a four-part collaboration between Weiss and Benioff, who are white, and Nichelle Tramble Spellman and Malcolm Spellman, a married writer and producer couple, who are black. The Spellmans are behind hit television shows The Good Wife and Empire.

The show, in early stages of development, has received major backlash. April Reign, creator of the hashtag #OscarsSoWhite, mobilized the Twittersphere on Sunday night with #NoConfederate, a joint effort between Reign and activists Rebecca Theodore, Jamie Broadnax, Shanelle Little, and Lauren Warren. And they were not alone in their concerns — earlier, critic Roxane Gay had condemned the series in the New York Times, calling it “slavery fan fiction.”

The message? Do not run this show.

Reign posits that the subject alone is reason enough to cancel the show, pointing out that the effects of slavery are still felt today. Responding to someone suggesting that the show might illustrate what living with racism is like, Reign tweeted: “You mean white people. People of color are well aware of this. We don’t need a TV show. We have, you know, our daily existence and stuff.”

  1. Or, if one is cynical enough, perhaps HBO knows exactly what its doing: broadening the blood thirsty audience brought in by GoT to include the drooling knuckle-dragging, paste-eating tRump supporters who would normally eschew HBO as being too “cosmopolitan.”

SMACKDOWN: Jim Acosta v. Steve Miller

Seriously, Steve Miller is the most obvious Trump flack we’ve ever see.

Well…besides Kellyanne Conway.

Or, you know, Sean Spicer.

Or, shit..I forgot: Da’Mooch!

Or…uh, who’s doin’ that lyin’ shit today? Aah, never mind – all of them are going to obfuscate, backfill and outright lie. 1

  1. It should be noted that whatever Stephen Miller said about the Statue of Liberty doesn’t matter since he was “added later”, and will most likely be “fired next.”

Under Oath

May Crom 1 protect and bless Sen. Franken. 2

Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) said on Sunday that Donald Trump Jr. and former campaign chairman Paul Manafort should testify under oath.

During an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Franken was asked whether it was good enough for the two to testify behind closed doors and not under oath.

“No, that’s not good enough,” Franken said. “It should be under oath.”

Franken said he would like to ask questions about whether they had any other meetings with the Russians.

And if you’re asking why Donnie Jr & Manafort need to provide public sworn testimony 3, may we refresh your memory?

  2. Valor pleases you, Crom… so grant Sen. Franken’s request. Grant America the truth! And if you do not listen, then to HELL with you!
  3. It is a crime to lie to Congress, whether under oath or not. However I doubt that bothers either Donnie Jr or Manafort – who’s going to call them on it – the members of the panel? It’s not like the minutes will be made public.

Jeffy Sessions’s Lies

Among other things, American Oversight has filed FOIA requests demanding the release of documents pertaining to Attorney General Jeff Sessions’s Russian contacts.

Just yesterday DOJ produced a single, heavily redacted page of Attorney General Jeff Sessions’s security clearance application on which Sessions indicated that he had no foreign government contacts in the past seven years.

I promise you, had I or any other Federal employee blatantly lied on our security clearance application, we would have been immediately dismissed for cause and –depending upon a.) the blatancy of the lie and b.) the ramifications of the lie– prosecuted.

Sessions? He’s free to try and impose his idea of the 1950s theocracy on a country that doesn’t want it.

Jeffy Sessions's Lies

A Painful Truth

Thus a painful truth for those patriotic Americans who oppose Donald Trump: He will not be impeached. His son’s emails basically admitting collusion with Russia will ultimately mean little if anything.

Why is this?

Because there is likely no amount of empirical evidence or facts that will turn the Republican Party and its supporters against President Trump. He is a tool for accomplishing the Republican Party’s goals of giving more money to the very richest Americans, punishing poor and working-class people, destroying the commons and the social safety net, creating a Christian theocracy, undermining the middle class, giving corporations full control over the country, destroying the environment, taking away women’s control over their own bodies, abusing Muslims, and denying the civil rights, freedom and equal citizenship of African-Americans and other people of color. In all, the Republican Party, its voters and the right-wing media have chosen political power over loyalty to country. In that context, Russia’s meddling in our presidential election to put Donald Trump in the White House is but a means to an end.

We find this depressingly accurate.

Worse, as we’ve mentioned elsewhere, Bob Mueller’s final report may well make no recommendation. Put another way, Mueller may identify and tut-tut a whole raft of ‘questionable’ behavior by OMP and His Minions, but decide to do absolute squat about it.

Not that we may ever know. Again we’ll state there’s no law that says Mueller’s report must be made public; he might hold a simple press conference wherein he briefly says “Go home, everyone; nothing to look at here.”

A Painful Truth

Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III

We don’t know about you, but we fully expect the United States Attorney General, Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III, once he has been fully sworn in before the Senate Intelligence Committee today, to immediately start stalling, obfuscating and –where necessary– lying his ass off.

Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III

Sessions made it clear in yesterday’s cabinet meeting, where one by one each cabinet head proceeded to give OMP a lavish rim job (“It’s an honor to be able to serve you,” said Attorney General Jeff Sessions) 1, that he was looking to get back into OMP‘s favor. 2

As one of the original neo-Confederates, Sessions has shown himself more than willing to lick OMP‘s shoes in public. Hourly, if need be. Which means he would fire Mueller in an instant should OMP ever mutter his New York version of will no one rid me of this troublesome special counsel? – “Get ’em outta heah!”

If the Senate Intelligence Committee is serious their very first question to Sessions should be: “Yes or no, please: at any time in your relationship with OMP did he demand your loyalty and how did you respond?” That would be a good question.

Sessions has absolutely nothing to gain by being truthful with the committee. Indeed should Sessions admit to more “undisclosed” meetings with Russia’s US Ambassador Sergey Kislyak, it is quite likely he would be out of work and, possibly, facing federal charges. We can tell you without fear of error that an average federal government employee who had made similar omissions during the hiring process would have been summarily dismissed from government service, with prejudice, and, depending upon the severity of the omission, immediately prosecuted.

Stalling, obfuscating and lying, that’s what we’ll see from Sessions today. 3

  1. If you are still undecided whether OMP fits the bill of a Third World strongman/dictator after that noxious display, you’re part of the problem. To put it in perspective
  2. We’re not any sort of medical personnel here at WNBTv, but it seems abundantly clear to us that –short man syndrome aside– Sessions has a few obviously unresolved daddy issues.
  3. If you want a worm to turn, reach out to Preibus; the guy doesn’t have and sand. When OMP pushes him to the curb, he’ll spill everything.

The Traitors Coats and Rogers

We briefly mentioned the traitors Coats & Rogers the other day; Congress called on them to testify, in their capacity as national security SMEs, regarding whether OMP requested they betray their country in order to crush public knowledge of OMP‘s (putative) treason.

Their response? They found those questions “too inappropriate” to answer.

Again, imagine for a moment the clamor from the ReThugs had Clinton told the Benghazi committee that a question was “too inappropriate” to answer.

So, no real answers from these cretins, right?

Not so much; had either of these traitors been able to honestly respond that OMP had not attempted to induce them into either perjury or obstruction of justice, we would have heard about it, loudly, resentfully and at length. Which means they have made a calculated decision to avoid, at all costs, lying in public. They had adopted this strategy because because they know the truth will inevitably leak out (e.g., see Nixon.) But they can’t tell the truth themselves ’cause…PROSECUTION!

This whole administration is built on lies and on lies it will fail.

Previously on WNBTv

“The law enforcement investigation into possible coordination between Russia and the Trump campaign has identified a current White House official as a significant person of interest, showing that the probe is reaching into the highest levels of government.”

It’s apparent the freaking WaPo isn’t going to name names, so let’s tease it out for ourselves, shall we?

Of course…sometimes the correct explanation is the simplest one. 1

Racist and Retard Karl Oliver

Sweet Jebus H. Kerist! The neo-Confederates of The Once and Future South have lost their ever lovin’ minds (such as they are.)

Mississippi State Rep. Karl Oliver (Republican) recently called for the lynching of anyone who tries to take down Confederate memorials.

It is worth noting that to those members of The Once and Future South America lynching is one of the things they consider a prerequisite to Making Amurika Great Again!

It is also worth mentioning that Karl Oliver and his ilk are all Trump supporters. 1
