Tillerson and DPRK

Lost in the past week’s tar and feathering of Roy Moore was (soon-to-be-erstwhile) Secretary of StateTillerson’s wholly sensible attempt to lure DPRK to the negotiating table:

U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson offered to begin direct talks with North Korea without pre-conditions, backing away from a key U.S. demand that Pyongyang must first accept that giving up its nuclear arsenal would be part of any negotiations.

Tillerson’s new diplomatic overture comes nearly two weeks after North Korea said it had successfully tested a breakthrough intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) that put the entire United States mainland within range of its nuclear weapons.

“Let’s just meet,” Tillerson said in a speech to Washington’s Atlantic Council think tank on Tuesday.

The White House later issued an ambiguous statement that left unclear whether President Donald Trump – who has said Tillerson was wasting his time pursuing dialogue with North Korea – had given his approval for the speech.

“The president’s views on North Korea have not changed,” the White House said. “North Korea is acting in an unsafe way … North Korea’s actions are not good for anyone and certainly not good for North Korea.”

This was a hugely surprising statement from the oil baron, especially as he nominally fits right in with the Dolt of Idiots within the Administration. It is also the sanest approach to DPRK proffered by anyone in that same Administration, 1 given DPRK is already a nuclear state with no more intentions of relinquishing those capabilities than, say, Israel.

Lest you think us insane it’s useful to remember that since Shrub & The Dark Lord, no one, we mean no one, from the State Department has been allowed to speak directly to their  DPNK cohorts.  2

And look how well that has worked out, n’est-ce pas?

  1. Safe to say we’re suffering a touch of whiplash from the cognitive dissonance of it all.
  2. You’ll remember one of Shrub’s Greatest Hits from 2002, when he named the country part of the “axis of evil”?

The Pussy Grabber v. DPRK

“North Korea best not make any more threats to the United States. They will be met with fire and fury like the world has never seen,” Trump said. “They will be met with fire, fury and frankly power the likes of which the world has never seen.”

If you don’t think The Pussy-Grabber in Chief doesn’t badly want a war with North Korea (even at the risk of a nuclear conflagration), if only to distract the public from the multiple secret grand juries that will end his life in public office, then you’ve not been paying attention.

More worrisome is how the MSM has been demonizing DPRK the last few months. If you will remember, this is exactly how Shrub and The Dark Lord started prepping the country for their oil grab the Iraq “war.”

We’ve seen this play before, of course. The problem this time is that, unlike during Shrub’s presidency –where there were a few adults around– there’s no one in this administration to put the brakes to The Pussy Grabber’s rampant id. Hell, half the people he appointed are apocalyptic evangelicals, people who desire nothing so much as to bring the whole world to an end.

“Bumpy ride” doesn’t even begin to describe the possibilities…
