Dead Drop

Until such time as SecureDrop becomes available as a plugin for WordPress blogs 1 , if you want to send something totally anonymously to us, do the following:

  1. Acquire an anonymous email account – many people find these folks to be accommodating. And free!
  2. Once you have email set up, find a public Wi-Fi (the Roasterie/Starbucks/ even your local Hy-Vee, for pity’s sake) and using your browser’s InPrivate mode (or a VPN or an anonymousizer), scoot on over to Dead Drop. (The absolute BEST way to do the above is to use TAILS: we use it whenever we use ANY public WiFi.) This is exactly as it sounds, a place to leave information that self-destructs after 24 hours. 2
  3. Then, using your anony email account, send the resultant message (see below) to SOMEONE AT WILLNOTBETELEVISED DOT COM

Hi,
I’m sending you some secure information.
Click this url
https://dead-drop.me/pickup/57ed01b33c7e89.64384484
or if that doesn’t work, copy and paste it into your web browser’s location bar
This will ONLY work once, so be careful with the password, and make sure to copy the data immediately.
This is the password
HI3zY2AYoCI773c
After you pick it up, the data will self destruct and this link won’t work anymore.
This link will only work for 24 hours, so please check shortly.
Thanks!

This method guarantees your total anonymity in sending WNBTv information. 3

  1. Given the nature of the technology, WordPress itself would have to host it. So…post many many many suggestions to the WordPress Forums asking them to do so!
  2. Dead Drop doesn’t accept attachments. Which means you would have to a.) transcribe the information, or b.) scan and edit the doc, using a variety of available software
  3. Unless the NSA really really really wants to listen in. In which case you’re screwed. But you knew that, n’est-ce pas?
