Opt out of PRISM, the NSA’s global data surveillance program. Stop reporting your online activities to the American government with these free alternatives to proprietary software.
This is an excellent list — put together by the worthies at the Electronic Frontier Foundation –of free open source software you can use instead of the deliberately designed unsafe crap for which you’ve undoubtedly spent far too much money. 1 Especially useful is the encryption software available for all your communication needs. That said, a couple of notes:
- Don’t get me started on Micro$oft’s NetBIOS/UNC, which as every ‘puter g33k knows is THE source of all e-vil. ↩
- If you’re a mommy blogger, a cat blogger, a diarist or a link aggregator, chance are PRISM is going to listen in just long enough to yawn, then go elsewhere. No need for you to learn anything new… ↩
- As we’ve mentioned countless times, warrants shmarrants: the PRISM folk have had the ability – and total lack of conscience – necessary to trunk into any switch they’ve desired for decades. COVER YOUR ASS! ↩
