  1. This puts me in mind of those recent vids showing pontificating politicians spouting nonsense sentences. Except this isn’t funny. Hell, it doesn’t even have any affect. Frankly it’s scary; good thing there’s at least 250 miles between here and Omaha, Nebraska, else that woman might just calmly walk all the way down here and scare everyone straight at Buddies. For starters.

You say Pineapple, I say PWNED

We just got back from The Roasterie (damn those cups!) where we were witness –yet again– to the cult of willful stupidity.

Folks, you have two choices:

1. Do no monetary business on your laptop

or…

2. Stay out of cafes and other wifi hotspot

It’s that simple. There’s no grey area involved, no maybes, ifs, ands or buts. The choice is classic Boolean; it’s either or not and.

Why?

Well read ‘em and weep, ye old believers in the milk of human kindness:

The WiFi Pineapple is a hot-spot honey-pot.

Most wireless devices including laptops, tablets and smartphones have network software that automatically connects to access points they remember. …Simply put, when your computer turns on, the wireless radio sends out probe requests. These requests say “Is such-and-such wireless network around?”

The WiFi Pineapple Mark IV, powered by Jasager — German for “The Yes Man” — replies to these requests to say “Sure, I’m such-and-such wireless access point — let’s get you online!”

And with the newly improved Pineapple Mark IV web interface, gathering interesting packets, spoofing DNS, watching web traffic and more is just a click away.

For just $90. Watch the vid, it’s entertaining as hell.

Digital Us

We stumbled across yet another take on our fascination with techology and the online world at BBC Radio 4.

It’s called The Digital Human and looks at our use of technology, as well as how how it affects our relationship to the social world. Written and presented by a psychologist 1 the first episode walks us through our tendency to DSM V-like gather and display our personalities media via YouTube, Flickr and the ilk.

The second episode covers how we present ourselves online even though we have little or no control over it once posted.

You can download each podcast or listen online.

Actually ALL marriage should be banned…

Gay? He doesn't even look happy!!

Is it just me or does this fuckin’ stink of politics?

Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad he made up his mind. 1 And I’m sure the LGBT community at large are pleased. It’s just the timing doesn’t gel for me. 2

  1. No, Joe didn’t ‘misspeak’ and force Obama to follow suit; that’s not how power works. What really happened is the Obama campaign/administration took a hard look at the poll numbers and decided to send Joe out to take one for the team (or be hailed a hero, depending on the results). And what they obviously discovered is it’s to Obama’s advantage this fall to be for gay marriage. If the nearly last 4 years have proved anything, it’s that Obama is a pragmatist.
  2. Like that matters.
